Radish

Radish are among the easiest vegetables to grow on our plot.
The seeds are scattered anywhere there is a bit of space, and about 4 weeks later they are ready to pull
Because they are so easy, they can be used as a catch crop, which means they can utilise space whilst you wait for slower growing crops to come, and they can be used as a trap crop, sacrificing themselves to the slugs and pests, and keeping the other crops less vulnerable.

problems;
If your soil is allowed to dry out, the radish will bolt, sending up flower stems, and going to seed. At this point the radish is inedible, throw it out and start over.

when to plant;
You can start sowing seeds in February, and continue every week until September. The percentage of germination is high, so a few often will keep you in Radish for most of the year.

when to pick;
It can be as little as 4 weeks after planting, you need to grab them when they are about the diameter of your thumb. Pick as you need them for the most delicious flavour.
Radish don't keep for long, but if you leave the leaves on, you can sit them in a dish of water to keep them fresh for a day or so.
